I just love these antique wasp waist mannequins - they are so evocative of a time gone by, a time of tightly corseted waists and beautiful gowns! This wonderful vintage lady has such a beautiful silhouette and her fabric is in great condition, with just a few minor marks to the main part of the torso. The seam work is tight and strong and hugs her hourglass figure. She dates to around the late 1800s and is a superb example of her type.
A few points to mention. She is missing her finial and the torso sits on top of the inner pole at the top. Her height can be altered by way of the original turn key, although she stands at the perfect height just as she is. The stand itself is made of ebonised wood (as are her arm caps and neck cap) and stands very straight.
Someone in the past stuck fabric tape around the bottom of the torso (I don't know why, as it wasn't covering any damage) which I have removed. Some of the residue still remains. This can probably be removed by a fabric solvent remover, but for now I have covered it in lace, which will go with her to her new owner.
