The fabric of this stunning antique waspwaist mannequin was in such a poor state it had to be removed. Amazingly, in the process of doing this the original newspaper covering underneath was revealed. Mannequins of this age are constructed of a very thick cardboard material, covered with newspaper, then a layer of wadding and then finally the fabric covering. We usually have to approximate the dates of antique mannequins, but with this lady we know exactly! The newspaper used is dated September 1903 and the date is visible in a few places.

I have protected the newspaper with a layer of clear varnish. The torso is very sturdy, even though there is some crushing to the front of the chest. There is a hole at the back of the neck and the stand has evidence of old woodworm, which I have treated just to be sure. The height can be adjusted by way of the original metal turnkey. I have taken lots of pictures which I hope show the condition of the mannequin, but please do get in touch if you have any questions about her at all.
